Wow, what a year it has been! 2023 marked the launch of Emergency Medicine Memoir’s podcast, and I can’t express how much we’ve accomplished. Throughout the year, I had the opportunity to interview several emergency medicine professionals, which provided me with invaluable insights into their opinions and perspectives. To my delight, the podcast has had a tremendous impact, attracting over 300 listeners from 15 different countries. I am thrilled that the podcast’s influence has exceeded my expectations – and it won’t stop here.

2023 – A Year in Review Emergency Medicine Memoirs

Beyond these numbers, I’ve learned a lot by running this podcast and conducting numerous interviews. My knowledge of emergency medicine has significantly grown this year. I have had the opportunity to partake in events and experience different medical calls. So, I want to talk about them. Emergency medicine professionals’ opinions and insights on EM are usually heard in this podcast. However, I want to tell you what I felt and experienced about 2023 and emergency medicine in this episode. As a quick refresher, I am the Commander of a local EMS Explorer post, a place for teenagers to learn about emergency medical services through engagement in ride-alongs, weekly meetings, and skills training.

In the podcast, I discussed my experiences with my firsts for 2023. It was a lot of intense content, so I won’t go too deep into it in this blog. But, I can say that this year, I witnessed humanity in its rawest form, which was an eye-opening experience. Additionally, I was promoted to the commander position of my EMS post, where I oversee 60 explorers and work closely with clinical specialists, medics, and chiefs from the department. This position has allowed me to learn more about emergency medicine and help my peers grow and learn to become the best EMS post possible.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to the fantastic guests we’ve had on the podcast. Captain Malone, CS Malone, CS McSherry, Medic Ruiz, CS Tran, Medic Jimenez, CS Olivarez, CS Barnhart, Medic Rasmussen, and Medical student Cook, thank you for lending your time and expertise to our platform. I know it’s not always easy to share personal perspectives and professional knowledge, but you all stepped up to the plate, motivated by the cause of aiding others in their journey through the complex world of emergency medicine. Your willingness to share your wisdom and illuminate various aspects of this field was truly inspiring. I sincerely appreciate you coming on the podcast, and I can’t wait to have you back again.

That’s a wrap for this episode. What a year 2023 has been! I want to express my appreciation to all our guests and listeners. A podcast would not be possible without your dedication and support. Stay tuned for more exciting episodes to come in 2024!
